  Object Information:

 

NGC 1977, NGC 1973 and NGC 1975 - reflection nebula

 

This colorful group of reflection nebula are located just north of Messier 42 and Messier 43, which can be partially seen at the bottom of this image.  This group of reflection nebula is sometimes collectively called the Running Man Nebula or the Ghost Nebula.

 

This image was selected as Astronomy Picture of the Day for October 2, 2003.
