NGC 2264

 

  Object Information:

 

NGC 2264 is an open cluster of stars imbedded in a diffuse nebula.  The image above shows the characteristic blue of a reflection nebula and the red glow of an emission nebula of hydrogen gas which is powered by the nearby bright stars.  This image also shows rings around the brighter stars caused by reflections within the telescope and camera optics.
